background noise of constant frequency

Since new (early this year) my iMac 27 iCore7 makes a constant noise in the background (not linked to disk activity).

It sounds a bit like a noisy power transformer, or could be a fan revving noisy, but with continuous speed. iStat doesn't show anything special in terms of temperatures or fan speeds and when these vary the noise isn't changing.

Noise vanishes when I put my Mac on sleep and resumes when I wake it up.

Anyone else experiencing this ?

Thanks for advice.

Record the noise and save it. Then email it to Apple along with your request for a FedEX shipping box. Apple is obligated to service your machine while under warranty and pay for the shipping.

As it's still under warranty i'd take it back to the shop.

As my shop is the AppleStore and I'm not living close to any large town I'm just trying to find out whether I'm too "noise sensitive" or if it's a genuine issue, before sending back my machine to the Applestore.

It's difficult to let the AppleCare guys hear my noise through phone lines...

Thanks for the advice, anyway.

Seems like this problem.

I have it myself and is pursuing a fix myself, so if anyone got a fix for it, please share

I got mine fixed, well, the workshop changed the led backlight board, but same problem. Still high pitch whine between 30-90% brightness.

Its been on workshop 2nd time, and they said they have contacted apple and got the answer: Thats just how this model is... i mean, come on...

so, sending it to repair most likely wont fix the problem :-S
