Phone doesn't react nor charge

My iPhone 1st generation stopped working the other day without warning (I haven't dropped or drowned it). The screen stays black (no apple logo) and it shows no reaction to charging (both via computer and power plug) or to reset. iTunes doesn't recognize it either. Can someone guess what the problem might be and how I could fix it?

I would first try a reset:

"Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears"

if that won't help and due to the "age" of the phone it could also be a battery issue. if the voltage is to low - it can't be charged (even some power plugs can be bad and deliver to low voltages)

i would measure the voltage of the battery first (after disassembling it first of course)

you will need the tools mentioned in the guide and a multimeter.
