iPhone 4s battery connector solder issue.

I ripped one of the solder pads from the board of my 4s and need some advice please.

In the attached pic you can see what looks like a tiny copper strand sticking out of the board near where the pad should be (arrow 1). Would I get away with soldering a copper wire from this strand to the point marked arrow 4 or would the wire have to go from point 4 to points 2 and 3, which would then have to be bridged? Also, do I need to solder wire from point 4 to 5?

Any help would be appreciated. Can't find much on t'net about this. Cheers. []

What you will need to do is run the wire from point 4 to point 2 (you're replacing the "break" at point 1 with a wire).

The problem is: there is no longer a pad at point 4 for you to connect a wire to.

If it were me, I would attach the wire from the bottom of the new connector (at the pin that would have been sitting on the pad that was ripped off) to the capacitor at point 2 (south end closest to the connector). No need for any other wires.

Of course, all of the is assuming that there are no inner-layer connections from point 4 to somewhere else.

By the way: at point 2...is there a component there? It is hard to tell from your picture, but there *should* be a capacitor at that point and it kind of looks like it is missing

Hi John, thanks for the reply mate.

I had a close look at the board and think you might be right about the capacitor being missing. Just my luck.

I tried to solder a wire to the new connector and instantly melted it lol so I'm calling it a day. I was happy to just send the board away for repair, but I don't know if there would be any point due to the missing capacitor. Is this an essential component or could the phone live without it?

CarlosSplendangos, your missing part is reference designator C293 which is a 100PF 16V 5% capacitor in a 01005 package. Of course it is the smallest package at 01005 (0402 metric): 0.4 mm × 0.2 mm (0.0157 in × 0.0079 in) You will definitely need to find somebody wit microsoldering abilities. Try user jessabethany and see if you can get some help from there. You might get away with placing a jumper across the capacitor soldering points. Otherwise follow the directions given by john, which are absolutely correct. Hope this helps, good luck.
