No Service in any location.

Everything on this iPhone works beautifully except the phone. There is a "No Service" message in the upper left hand corner. When you first turn on the iPhone, the upper left hand corner says "Searching" but after a second or two it says "No Service." It can't seem to connect. Any ideas?

Update

Hey Markus. I don't know if it was ever opened in the past. It's opened now. The antenna connectors seem to be intact. I've been told it's either the antenna or the communications board. Definitely not a firmware/software issue. I can get a used comm board on ebay for $48. Might do it. Thanks for your ideas. cousinphil

Have you set up an account with a phone service provider?

hi phil,

sure, the antenna could be a problem. the best way would be a second iPhone to interchange the parts - but not everyone has that option.

Hey, thanks for your input. It turns out that it was a hardware problem. Probably the comm board. Know where I can get one cheap? All the broken iPhones on eBay are going from between $75 and $90. Ouch!

Gekozen oplossing

was the phone opened in the past ?

i would first do a firmware restore, then check the antenna connectors, maybe one of them is unpluggged. if thats not the case i would check/change the antenna

but there are other possible ways - like this one

Your iPhone could be in negative band, I mean the only way to fix it is replacing the commboard. Anyway you can call to your service provider and giving the iPhone IMEI number they can check this. You can also ask why the iPhone has no service.

This is an old post but if you are still looking for an answer i just solved the same problem with mine. Insert sim card and it says searching then no service. Hooked it up to my computer and synced it with iTunes and a screen popped up saying activating iPhone. Now it works. Hope this is helpful.
