Immediate "No service" 3G signal - broken antenna or 3G circuit?

I have an iPad 2 3G (CDMA), that the 3G antenna has been ripped off of during a digitizer replacement. The device says no service, but the weird thing is that it says "No Service" immediately after turning data off and then back on. No messages like searching, nothing. Just as soon as data is turned back on- no service. Now I know the antenna will need to be replaced, but will that allow a network the be found, or is something else damaged in the 3G circuit?

I have an extra wifi antenna... I think the connectors are similar for the 3G antenna. Could I plug the wifi antenna in and see if it will fix it or are they incompatible?
