super drive ejects "hard"

I have a PowerBook G4 aluminum; I recently upgraded my hard drive. That went fine, but after putting the case back together, discs are ejecting hard from the superdrive. When i eject the disc, the drive kinda whirrs and the disc will barely eject. I noticed that the aluminum case just above the slit in the drive is a bit bent down (it is convex in the middle)...it may be that I do not have the keyboard secured well enough where it clips on the tabs on the case. I have taken it all apart, but still cannot get the tabs to grab on to the little latches. There does appear to be a bit of a gap between the case and the keyboard...i.e. it is not flush against the surface...thanks for any ideas here? could it be the drive going bad also?...HAs anyone ever seen this?

I believe the top case may be warped a bit...I was very careful when i put the hard drive in and i never even took the optical drive out of its area in the case...however, as reMacberlin stated, I think my problem stems from the kb not being seated all the way...i canot seem to get those metal clips to grab on to the clips on the case...is there some trick to that? thanks!

I dont know a trick for that - but i never had this problem - maybe the best way to handle it would be reopening the PowerBook again and try to fix it - before the optical drive gets damaged

your question has the answer to your problem: "the aluminum case just above the slit in the drive is a bit bent down (it is convex in the middle)"

if you bent the case and maybe the top of the optical drive too - than it would make most likely the problems you experiencing

remove the optical drive and look if it's bent - try to fix the bottom case (very carefully)

The optical drive slot in the bottom case is probably deformed (known issue) causing a gap where the locking clip is located. Take off the top case and with the flat side of a spudger inserted in the middle of the slot slowly do a rotating movement to gradually lift up the upper section of the aluminum slot. Apply a ruler on the front top of the bottom case, pry the metal until it reach the ruler. Take your time and go slowly. If you don't have a spudger use a flat screwdriver with electrical tape around the tip so you will not damage the aluminum. Don't insert the flat tool inside the optical drive but only inside the aluminum slot.

Once the deformation is corrected reinstall the top case and before fastening the clip located rear of the optical drive slot insert something in the slot that will prevent the slot to deform when applying pressure to snap the clip.

Check the topcase for warps. Make sure the 4 platic clips over the slot on the bottom case are properly in place (the open end points into the computer). Never push the top of the drive, they are very fragile. Assemble carefully. I hope this helps.

Better to remove the top case but you can also do it without taking it off.
