Exhaust pipe get hot what could it be
Bought a 16.5 HP engine by briggs stratton yesterday, said had ring kit installed. Exhaust pipe got red hot in about 1 and a half mins

It depends on how old it is and whether or not it has overhead valves. If it is an OHV engine, you may need to adjust the valve clearance to specs.
It could also be running too lean and need the carburator adjusted.
I need Model, Type and Code Date located on the engine to find valve specs, and a picture of the carburator would help with adjustment.
Did the engine come on a piece of equipment or did you install it yourself as a replacement? What's the engine on?
An engine may also run hot if it isn't ran at full throttle.
Remember! It is an air cooled engine.
