iPhone 4s has a black screen chimes constantly when plugged?
this sucks, the phone is black, no screen activity at all.
itunes sees it but it just chimes every 5 seconds

Did it have water damage or drop damage?
Black screen can mean the LCD connection is loose, or (this is common) something happened to the backlight track on the motherboard. There are two tiny little filters that often fail. You can make this repair if you are adept at micro soldering.
The chi see very second problem is similar, either it is bad dock connector, or a failure of one of the components on the motherboard.
