My iPod nano 4G is frozen. Even though battery is charged it usually won't play. when it does play it won't allow me to select what to play or increase/decrease the volume. the only way I can turn it off is to hold the MENU and middle button down until it shuts itself off. Help!!

Reformatting is a Restore.
If your music is on Itunes, then you have nothing to worry about when it comes to restoring your iPod. All a Restore does is reload the original programming of the iPod as if it was new out of box. Itunes will recognize it as a new device and you simply need to re-sync it with your music library and you are set to go!

Has this been an ongoing issue? If this is a one time thing, have you tried reformatting it through iTunes?

Two weeks after my one year warranty ran out I had trouble with it (January 2010). Somehow, (not sure how), I was able to get it to work again but since then it continues to lock up. It has been locked now for about two weeks. Plays whatever it wants or won't play at all.
What do you mean by reformatting it through iTunes? Is that the same thing as RESTORE? I was afraid I would lose everything if I restored it. Guess it won't matter if I can't get it to work.
Any advise is appreciated......Thanks!
