Someone please confirm I have a problem with the keyboard

Hey guys! I have a problem with the keyboard on my mac. Most of the keys don't work and give me a sound when i press them. The row with numbers works fine except for the Delete button that erases the whole line instead of one symbol. Also Capp Lock button light is always on when I turn on the computer. Just wanted to confirm that the problem is with the keyboard itself before I order it and go through a crazy repair to replace the top part with the keyboard built-in.

Thanks a lot! After replacing the keyboard everything went back to normal.

Sounds like you're on the right track... I can't think of reason that a healthy keyboard would act this way, but as a test, connect a USB or bluetooth keyboard (they don't have to be manufactured by Apple). If the same behavior exhibits I'd think about/explore OS problems - if they work normally then it confirms your diagnosis.

Step 1: Turn on “Play user interface sounds” in System Preferences, under Sound -> Sound Effects.

Step 2: Turn on “Slow Keys” under Universal Access -> Keyboard, turn on “Use click key sounds”, and move the acceptance delay slider all the way towards the “Short” end. Unless, of course, you’d like to play around with slow keys to see what it does.

Step 3: Type until the sounds are maddening again, and then turn off Slow Keys in the same place.

On the Caps light:

If you have Function keys set to work as standard function keys in "System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard Tab" then your "Fn key" (as a modifier key) could be locked on. Just tap the Fn key to unlock it.

OR

Look in "System Preferences>Universal Access>Keyboard Tab" and see is "Sticky Keys" has been turned on. If so your "Shift Key" (as a modifier key) could be locked on. Just tap the Fn key to unlock it.
