Do I need glue/adhesive to replace only glass at iPhone5? Which?

Hello community,

(sorry for mistakes, english is not my first language but i hope you understand)

a friend of mine broke the glass of his iPhone 5 and asked me to replace it (only the glass). I watched a few tutorials in the internet where some people show how to separate the glass and the display and put a new glass on the display. I saw that they used a 70% oder 90% alcohol disinfection.

What i couldn't find is which type of glue/adhesive the used and where to buy it in the EU.

I would like to know if it is possible to put it all together and leaving out the glue. Would that work???

Thank you for your answers.

Hello together again, i did repair the iPhone 5 of my friend.

The only thing which was a little complicated (took most of the time) was removing the broken glass and the rest of the glue. And you really DON'T NEED GLUE to apply the new glass. I just screwed the display to the new glass WITHOUT GLUE and it is working very well.

At the two upper edges of the display there was a little bit harder glue which won't get soft if you heat it up but i took a razor blade and carefully removed it.

I used the glue instead for putting the glass and the upper frame together and to fix some things on the new glass.

Everything is now working very well.

So it is not true that you need to put the glass and the display together with glue, just wanted to let you know.

Here is your glue and the UV light to go with it:

myname, the repair job you did for your friend is a VERY POOR quality screen repair. Of course you will need to apply a special glue on the screen surface before attaching it to the glass. Otherwise you'll have air and dust trapped in between layers which is a cheap Android phones like.

The glue you are asking about is loca glue. Linked it to an informative article about the glue for you. The guy pretty much explains exactly what it is and how to use it for iphone screen repair.

Yes when replacing only the glass you will need a special adhesive that is transparent which is used to glue the glass to the LCD you can find it on eBay Ill post a link, but be warned replacing just the glass is extremely hard and is not even done by professionals. If it was me i would recommend replacing the whole LCD Build. Of course that will cost you close to 200 dollars but at least you can complete it worry free. Anyways good luck and please look at this video.

You need liquid Glue, tape will not work when Apple recreated the iPhone 5 the Front Glass was glued with a special glue. To apply the glue you must place it directly on the LCD itself. I have repaird iPhones in the past and I have never Done this method because of the risk of ruining the whole LCD. The links above are exactly what you need if your going to proceed with your method.

Hello, thank you for your answers. I told him that it is a very complicated thing to repair but he refused to buy the whole LCD because in Germany you can only get it for about 200 to 240 Euros.

Hey, what do you mean with "special" glue? The only special thing i can see in the description is, that it is UV Curing. But if it is UV Curing don't i need an UV-lamp to make it cure? And i did't see them use an UV-lamp in the videos i watched on youtube.

Do you think i can use any UV Curing glue i can buy in Germany? Or another transparent glue?

UV caring as it cares by light, not a special UV light but light in general. I don't belive any UV caring glue will work as it has to be 100% transparent when it dries and free of air bubbles. Remember that the glue will be put directly on the lcd and if a bubble or the glue dries foggy then you don't have an enjoyable apple device. I highly recommend spending the extra cash and buying the whole front assembly as they are getting cheaper. That being said this should be everything you need for replacement your way with free worldwide shipping:

If any more questions please ask and good luck.

Glad to hear, I did know that you didn't have to put glue but without the glue the glass isn't secured as well as it would have been with glue but if you think its fine then i'm glad I could help in any way.

You'd better consider what Valiera mentioned above. It's easy to break the glass lens when separating it from the display. You'd better replace the whole screen, which is about $90 rather than $200 that Valiera said. Display assembly repair guides: iPhone 5 LCD and Digitizer Replacement

hi. i like the way you didnt use the glue as that seems the most annoying part to me, the bubbles. but when you say you used some glue on the upper case, do you mean just a little bit around the outer case?

Hey, so i was reading this post and i was wondering if anything happened to the iphone you repaired with NO GLUE? I have an iphone with a broken glass and i really dont want to use the glue, that part looks very messy. I would like to know if NOT using the glue is gonna bring me some future problems, i dont want my phone to have future problems because of not using the glue.

It appears the glue is a safety precaution incase you break the glass, it don't come apart as easy and cut you also may keep it from breaking as easy

@sam, the glue is to adhere the digitizer to the LCD. If you do not use any adhesive, the digitizer will be separate from the LCD.

I ordered the glass to replace my iphone 5 without the lcd. The iphone 5 glass came with a double sided adhesive tape, can i use that instead of the adhesive glue? and if so is there a video on youtube that shows it? i have not been able to find any videos using the adhesive tape. just the liquid.

adhesive tape is the optically clear adhesive that they installed with. LOCA or liquid optically clear adhesive is no different besides it's being a liquid.

double sided adhesive is no enough.you need more to attech this.u need uv glue.this is good for all glass replacement.

I don't think you need to do with your own so please hand over your iphone to an expert who is good that because if a small mistake happen it will spoil your phone, but if you had plan to make your own then use fevikwik glue that is very good for all this stuff.
