Keyboard problem: Logic board or ZIF Ribbon

Hi all,

I attempted to replace the topcase of a Macbook Pro 15" Mid-2012 model and managed to get the computer started up... However, the keyboard isn't working.

I realised in the middle of disassembly I pulled out the keyboard Zif cable without releasing the latch on the logic board.

I have a feeling this totally destroyed the socket, but I'm not too sure since the power button works (on some occasions...) so it might be the cable itself.

Thanks for your help,

Z.

Update

Hey guys,

I figured out the problem... The keyboard on the replacement case was faulty.

Just have to transfer my old keyboard over, and should be fixed :)

So, have you been able to replace the keyboard in the case?

Were there any rivets you had to deal with or was the keyboard just screwed down?

It's probably not the socket. Seating the cable all the way in can be difficult. Be sure the lock is flipped up before inserting. I use a good sized piece of tape on the cable so I can pull it into the socket. Please let us know your results.

Okay, I'll give it a go tomorrow and let you know what happens...

I read somewhere that pulling out a zif cable without releasing the latch totally destroys the socket on the logic board, and I'm not too sure if this is truly the case (... and I'm hoping it isn't!)
