The 2012 battery is the same service spare as the 2010 and 2011 range, but apple specify the 2013 model as being a different range. This doesn't confirm if it is interchangeable, as apple often separate part numbers when they are for different ranges just for the sake of it.
The other reason could be simply that the capacity is so much higher than the earlier battery type, so apple are separating them. But i wont know if they are interchangeable for sure until i get a batch of the batteries through for testing...

Let me know when you find out please.
I will look into it further, but i am not likely to have a confirmed answer for a few months, as it will be dependent on receiving recycled machines in for the 2013 range, which will still be under apple care... the only complete machines are either faulty after apple care, or liquid damaged... but i will look into the part number details on apples side and let you know what i find out.

Ernie, it does not. Check the ifixit teardown step 4 clearly states " different battery, same dimensions"

Swap someone's 2012 MacBook Air with the 2013 model and he or she will never know the difference. Cosmetically, it's identical to last year's version: same aluminum unibody construction, same ports, same 1,366x768-pixel 11.6-inch display, same keyboard and clickable trackpad.
