This is more a tip then a question but for now is the only place to put it...

NEVER hold your MBP just on the right side with the screen open.

Normaly everyone passes the laptop to others like this but in the case of a MBP (except the unibody) this can damage the optical drive.

The drive is very close to the aluninium body and this one bends when you hold the laptop like this and specialy if you have a disc spinning in the drive you will problably damage it.

I've recently been passing my MacBook like you might a platter, with my hand splayed out in the center of the computer on the bottom, toward the back edge to compensate for the display's weight. This feels very secure, gives the person I'm passing it to both edges to grab, and doesn't (I think) put much stress on the frame.

I always pass them like this to others, nothing really happened.

If you think of it, this can only happen when the pressure is to high.

Aluminium is very flexible and i had a few MBP going through my hands.

This has never happened.

Could you get some pictures?

This can happen if there is a disc inside the drive and if the disc is spinning you hear a "scratching" noise when you hold the laptop like that.

You can't see it because it barely bends but bends enough to damage make the disc touche the drive, I've heard that noise some times but didn't damage the drive but a friend of mine wasn't so lucky and had to replace the drive, it just stop reading discs.

Does anyone else have the same opinion or had this problem?

This can happen to HD holding on the left, OD holding on the right (the bottom case will flex on either side if the screen is open. Support the laptop from the bottom.

As for how to thrash your OD, spill something on it, or, block the eject port.

I can second this. I have several friends that work for apple, including one in the laptop department, and it is by far the biggest problem they come across with the drives on mac books.

put a mini credit-card disc in a slot load drive, that will do a pretty good job of trashing it!
