Do you really have to take the whole thing apart?

Looking at the guide to get at the back of the screens (I will need to check the ribbon cables to make sure they are all connected) you have to completely tear the bottom part down. Can't I just follow the last like 3 steps and just heatgun the front bezel and then take out the screws?

Scott Smith, the guides are tried and proven, so you know they will work. Ultimately it is your decision on how to get the goal accomplished. If you can do it the way you suggest, make a guide for the rest of us, so we know there is a shortcut. I'd suggest to follow the guides, at least that way you know what you are getting yourself into:-) Hope this helps, good luck

It just seems silly to have to tear all the bottom apart just to remove the top, on laptops (similar idea) you don't need to take the motherboard out to remove the back of the screen. It just seems a bit like they copy and pasted the rest of the guide for a tear down even though the only part that refers to the top of the 3ds is the last few steps.

Is there any reason you need to pull the whole bottom apart? Or is the only answer because the guide says so? *I really hope I don't come off as pissy, I am just curious why the WHOLE thing needs to be taken apart just to have access to the back of the top screen.
