Hi
It's time to change some capacitors in my iMac. I hear some sqicking noises when mac is using more power. My question is: What capacitors I must order for power supply and logic board (how many and what kind)? I don't wan't to open it until i have the capacitors, because Mac is still working fine and I'm using it for work.

This is NOT one of the machines that had the capacitor problems. The noise you heard is probably from a fan. Have you ever opened it to clean it?

The noises are from power supply. They are not constant, only when I scroll internet pages, when i put backlight at maximum, when I plug in the iPod...only when it's using more power. The fans are making some noises, but the noise what i'm talking about, it's the same also when i put the fans at maximum. Trust me, bad capacitors!!
but mayer is right - the capacitor problem was mostly a g5 problem - but i had also a few old core duo models - since i dont have a 20" c2d here - i cant tell you what capacitors the psu uses.
do you have enough expierience to change the cap's ?
I trust mayer, and I know what is he talking about, but the quality of electricity in my house... on my island in Croatia is very bad and it's common here to have this kind of failure. For the experience... don't worry, I'm an electronic engineer
If your electrical supply is that bad I would certainly use a Battery Backup. This would provide a smooth flow of current. As to the capacitors going back, I have not seen one instance of this happening on this model.

Well yesterday i open my iMac... On power supply in the middle there is a small capacitor 47u 50V. Around that cap. PS produces too much heat. I change it with 47u 63V higher heat resistance, and guess what, no more sqicking sound!!!!
4SNS/1/4000000/1: VDOR it's logic board error related to Ambient light sensor. 28 Euro is the cost of new one in my country little bit expensive, but I replace it and VDOR error is gone.
Another thing, The OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A its not compatible With this iMac, because some clips in the mounting bracket are not in the same position, I just remove them with the knife and mount it... Working better and cooler than old Uj- 85j

If I were you I would open the computer up and try to track down where the sound is coming from exactly. Chances are it is the power supply and could be capacitor related as you stated, due to your poor quality power. The caps on the motherboard would probably be fine still, as the power supply should do a good job filtering things and your motherboard should be getting good clean power. Once you get the cover off this style iMac it is only a few screws to remove the LCD and a few more to remove the power supply You can pull the supply and check the values on it for what you need. Then put it back and mount the LCD, but don't put the cover back on until you get the parts you need. I have a 2.16 C2D iMac power supply which is dead. If it is the same as yours, I can give you the values off of it, or send you photos of it.
