i was using my laptop the other day when it became slow i shut it down i restarted and now when i turn it on i get a message that says windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem but sometimes right before that screen it says two options of windows xp i have windows 7 not xp so i dont know why that would be popping up can someone help me with this?

Do you have a Windows 7 Installation Disk? If you do not this is going to be a difficult fix.
What you need to do:
1) Boot using a Windows 7 Installation Disk (If you need help with that, let me know)
2) Right after the BIOS Splash screen, start hitting "F8" repeatedly... like a lot.
3) You will be prompted to a menu, choose "Repair your Computer"
4) If it asks for which installation choose, Windows 7
5) After the automatic System Repair is finished, it will ask you what to do next.
6) Choose "View Advanced Diagnostic Tools" (Or something like that, I am doing this from memory lol)
7) In the next menu, choose Command Prompt.
8) Once there you need to type this exactly, without quotations, also each "_" represents a space.
- "sfc_/scannow_/offbootdir=C:\_/offwindir=C:\windows"
This scan may take quite awhile. What it does is scan all of your essential windows files and components, and will automatically repair them. You will get a message at the end telling you if it made a repair, or if it did not find anything.
9) Next you are going to run CHKDSK. To do this type: "chkdsk C: /f /r" This will run Checkdisk and it will also scan, and repair any Windows files.
10) Restart your computer after everything is done. Generally this is an hour to 2 hour process.

the computer is an hp will a dell installation cd work? i say it wont because its for dell otherwise i dont have the installation cd it never came with one
i have recovery disks that i made with the recovery manager a long time ago but when i go through the loading files it say microsoft C++ runtime error so it will not let me use these cds
All you really need is a DVD/CD RW I can give you a link for a good windows 7:

On that link there is 2 different versions of Win 7 HP SP1. I used those isos to create a few system disks here at my shop.
For all of you out there who have Win 7, I suggest creating this disk, or going further and creating an All-In-One Windows 7 Install disk which has all versions 64 and 32 bit.

Unfortunately, you can't use Dell-brand recovery software on an HP.
However, per what flogo2003 said, you should be able to get into the recovery
management option via a Windows 7 recovery disc.
If you know anyone with a pc that has Win 7 on it, you can have them burn
off a recovery disc for you to use.

nah i dont have have anyone with one so i guess there nothing else to do
i found a disk with windows vista i have that everything works exept my internet all the drivers are there but the network controller how do i fix this?
Go to a computer with an internet connection, go to HP's website, under support section, (you may be asked for model number), enter that. You should be able to find the drivers under network link (this will be more than likely going to be wireless) download that unto a usb drive and then stick it in the machine and run the app from the usb ( this may take several tries as manufacturers use different components across the same model)

This may not be the best option, but do you know anyone who uses Torrents and could get you a fresh copy of Windows 7?
Bear in mind, I *strongly* discourage such a method, but it *is* out there...

Have you tried to boot into Safemode?

i click safe mode the screen pops up asking which os do i want to choose i dont choose anything and right away it gives me the same error message as before
