Secondary hard drive not restarting on wake from sleep?

I recently installed an second hard drive in place of my DVD drive in my late 2008 MacBook. It generally works great as storage paired with a smaller SSD drive as a primary but from time to time when the laptop wakes from sleep the storage drive doesn't always come back online. This is more of an annoyance to restart to get it back active again as it holds my iTunes and several other files I use quite often. I've reseated the drive to no avail. Is their possibly a setting somewhere that needs to be changed that I'm unaware of?

Go to the App Store and lookup Drive Mounter that should help in mounting the drive when it fails to show up when you boot up (instead of rebooting).

Your drive is taking to long to initialize given how fast the SSD is loading up the OS. Your drive maybe showing it's age.

I would run Disk Utility to check for any problems. If none show up, I would defragment the drive as the needed boot & btree files (sectors) maybe fragmented (taking longer to load than needed). Drive Genius or other defrag app can do this, or reformat the drive and restore your files from a back up.

Before doing anything make a good backup of your files.
