Power button won't work after wifi & screen replacement

So I had to replace the screen and during the process I ripped the wifi antenna. I ordered that and put it in no problem. Now before applying the Adhesive Strips I wanted to make sure everything worked. I tired holding the power button and it won't turn on (yes all the ribbon cables are attached). I plugged it into a power supply and it booted and the digitizer seemed to work ok, but not the power button. To turn it off I had to unscrew the logic board and lift it from the battery packs. Any ideas?

Does anyone have an idea of why my iPad was working perfectly one morning, left on charger and unused during the day, then won't work at all that night? It will not turn on; pushing both buttons at the same time for over 30 seconds does nothing; tried different power cords with no result; even took it to an Apple store for them to look at it and all they said was to buy a new one because the board was probably dead. I haven't taken it apart yet but am not afraid to if I have to. It's 3 years old and warranty has expired, so no bid deal. I'm just not ready to shell out another $800+ for a new one if it's only going to break for no apparent reason in 3 years. Thanks for any help or suggestions!

I had i similir proble ipad would not turn on dont know why. I had to open it and take of battery. Then it was back to normal.

Hey the home button prob is nothing to do with the power button. There are two very small metal pins by the area the home button sits on the cable connector. One of these or both have been knocked off while replacing. You need a new cable connector unit.

Agree with the other answers here. The ribbon cable is exposed between the volume-lock button and the power button and is very susceptible to being torn. Especially if you are not using caution when lifting the digitizer off originally, I've done it plenty of times.

I even had the ribbon tear in the same spot just from touching exposed adhesive. As soon as I lifted the digitizer to reposition it, the adhesive grabbed the exposed ribbon and ripped it right off. I circled where to look below.

Update

A few questions to see if I can help further:

1. Have you adjusted/replaced/done anything to that volume/power cable at all?

2. Does the volume-lock and/or volume up/down buttons still work?

Another issue I have run into is if you tighten the screws down too tight on this cable (be it the volume section or the power section) the buttons wont work because they dont have wiggle room. You might want to get below the rear-camera and try loosening the two screws holding the power button just a tad. One turn out, one turn in; just try to play with it a bit to see if it works.

The benefit of fixing an ipad is that you don't have to have the digitizer or LCD set in to the housing to test these things over and over. The only thing you cant use during the testing phase is the home button (and there are ways around that too).

Guys I swear I didn't rip the power cable!

Thank you for your suggestion on where to look.

The volume buttons work, but the sleep/wake won't. Also looks like the mute button isn't working either. Weird, I did try adjusting the screws but I never messed with with that cable before.

Weird. Your cable does look to be in tact, and I have never seen one have issues if it was never replaced. I have installed new volume cables only to find out after that they didn't work (despite looking fine). My only advice would be to replace the volume cable. The cable itself is cheap but it is the worst thing to have to replace on an iPad IMO.

You probably ripped the power cable as well. I bet you anything that the volume control still works but the power button does not (it's part of the same cable) due to the placement of the power cable it gets easily damaged unless you know where to be careful.

I'd suggest replacing the power/volume flex cable. They are very delicate and sometimes it's difficult to tell if they are broken just by looking.

The only other thing I'd try is to adjust the two screws holding the power/lock button down. Sometimes if they are too tight it will restrict the use of the button. I will say though that this remedy is more successful for the volume up/down buttons than the lock button.

If you chose to replace it yourself, I'd suggest buying a couple new cables just in case. They can rip easily while they are being installed if you're not careful. Also, about 1 out of 10 will be dead in my experience so it's always nice to have another one just in case.

To fix it yourself, find a video on YouTube so you can see how it twists. The twists on installing that thing are a trip.

I wanted to test it out before I stuck the new screen down on my iPad 2 and the power button will power on and off the iPad perfectly but it won't wake up and shut down the screen. Screen stays on or stays off when I click the power button. Volume and material buttons work correctly. Please help.

Well my story is when I removed the digitizer I ripped off the wifi antenna so I had to replace it by removing the motherboard and flipped it over to remove the antenna cable and put the new one

After that I did put the iPad together but the power button, volume up and the mute switch are not working

The only thing is working the volume down

I guess this is not a successful do it yourself situation

I had the same problem until I found out the flex cable for volume and on/off buttons was slightly torn. In the process of replacing it and removing old cable, the camera connector came off motherboard. I was hoping it would not affect on/off or volume but I guess it does, because after put new cable in, volume or power button still does not work. I don't care if the camera does not work, but now I am ready to give up on using volume and on/off button.

Unfortunately, I’m having the very same problem now…. When I tearing off the digitizer, the wifi antenna and on/off button was ripped off. I ordered both ribbons and replaced them very properly, everything works but the on/off and volume down button doesn’t, I’m not sure why, any solution guys? I’m really confusing now as only the volume up button is working…. Why? What a pathetic situation!
