won't boot up, faulty HDD

Hi, friend of mine ask for a favor. His MacBook won't boot up, it's go to gray screen with apple logo and spinning wheel and after few sec shoot down and do it over and over again. I've tried every advice I found on these forum. Nothing works. When I've start it with Comand+V it shoving on the and somethin like this:

BSD root: disk0s2, major 14, minor 2

I guess it is faulty HDD, isn't?

I've tried to do recovery, won't work, safety mode won't work either ...

My question is, how do I find right OS for these unit and where I can get it from? Also can I do it at home or it has to go to Apple lab?

Hope he has a backup. He should have the OEM install/repair disk (on the install disk are some simple disk repair tools). If not, those disks can be ordered from Apple. A commercial OS install disk would also have the tools. You'd want a copy of OS 10.4 - 10.6 (although it could sort of run 10.7 if upgraded to at least 2 GB of RAM.) However, it has a 32-bit EFI and is not capable of booting into 64-bit mode. It does not support "OpenCL" either. Note that OS X Lion is not capable of running Mac OS X apps originally written for the PowerPC processor as it does not support the "Rosetta" environment.

That being said - some MBD damage can not be repaired by any software and you'll have to use the guide (purchase the proper tools-any DIY job is easier when you use the correct tools) and replace the HD.
