Microphone has poor quality

I have recently had a problem with my microphone on the iphone. When I ring people, I can hear them clearly, but they can just about hear me, and sometimes it will crackle. This has become a problem as I am making more calls, and this is holding me back. Do I need to buy a new microphone, or is there something that I can do to fix it?

I have also dropped it a few times from about 3 feet, but this problem has occured in the past few days.
