metal pin in housing by the power switch - replacement methods?

Hello everyone.

I am having my back cover replaced to a bespoke one on my iphone 5.

the problem they are facing is this metal pin that is on the inside of the original housing.

this is not on the piece i have that im asking them to swap it with.

After some research i believe this is some sort of earthing pin and without this tiny little pin- the phone will not work.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to fix this or replace this pin

just to clarify

The new casing does not have this pin

The phone will not work without this

I have no spare pins

What has everyone else done?

your help - appreciated.

you will need 3 things, a small pair of side cutters, i mean small, a 6 inch screw driver and the small iphone pentalope screw driver.

to remove:

place aluminium casing on its back on a flat surface.

you can see the pin.

gently grip the pin using your small side cutters from the bottom of the pin

place your 6inch screw driver under the cutters and use the cutters as a falcrum

the pin will lift out gently.

to fit:

use your small pentelope screw driver and gently (using a screw motion) open the hole closer to the top, this will give the pin a bit more room and wont break the small casting when tapping the pin in.

tap the pin in gently until the top surface, this take in total around 1.5 minutes to do from start to finish.

good luck.

I had the same issue, though I don't know if its that important as they make it out to be, just use a sewing pin or something that fits in there, all I think it does is act as a hinge

It's just a structural support pin, No electrical function. Don't press the power switch too hard and nothing would happen.

If you really want to replace it, try extracting it from the original case and hammer it into the new one. You'll completely destroy the old one and risk wrecking the new one. But it is possible. I did it.
