Should I keep in mind any safety step before repairing my iPhone?

I have got some problems with my iPhone 4 screen. It is constantly flicking. So, I am decided to repair it on my own.

Should I take into account any safety step?

I mean things like using gloves or static charge bracelets.

As mentioned above by some of the members.

Bear the following steps in mind

1) The first thing to do is to watch a video on the replacement process and understand it properly, sometimes it helps to watch a few videos as the quality of the videos and the angles used is important in visualisation

2) Have a clean surface with the device on the inside of the desk i.e. not near the edge where you can loos screws

3) Print out a Screw location guide for the iphone which you can find using google as all screws are different and ideally you want to put everything back together as it was

4) Where possible use only plastic tools to remove connectors etc as some of the components are quite fragile and may come of if you use a metal tool

5) Once youve removed all the components you will notice you will need to release 10 screws to get the screen of 4 of them will be small screws in each corner and the other 6 will be in the middle with washers. My advice is take the 4 out of the corners but the other 6 only need to be loosened as they are a pain to put back and very time consuming

6) Finally once these screws are out use a hairdryer to warm up the front of the screen for about 20 seconds youll find the screen comes of much smoother and quicker

Good Luck

Be very careful when dissconnecting the battery connector. Be very careful when replacing new front assembly, do not pinch the thin digitizer cable when placing the screen in. Make sure you keep an eye on the cable at all times or you will bend and crease it. Keep the screws perfectly organized, I use a magnetic sheet, the back of broad tape works too. If the iPhone has never been opened before I use gloves, to keep it nice and pristine. I do not use anti static measures, bad personal habit.

I don´t know what´s "magnetic sheet" or a "broad tape". I´m not a native english speaker so these tools are not familiar for me.

Could you send me a link with each one of them (ebay, for instance).

I wouldn't call that a bad habit Brad cause I do the same, and have never had a problem, in fact the school I went to said they were unnecessary.

gdlara, you want to make sure you have a way to keep every screw in a place that stay's organized and safe from bumping that could dis organize them, weather its stuck to sticky tape or a magnet to hold them in the order you take them out, when I was new at fixing phones I used a sheet of white paper, I drew a pattern of the phone I was working on and the location of each screw on the paper with a ink marker and placed each screw on it's spot on the paper as I removed them, it saves time and makes it easy to reassemble and you know the screws are in the right spot, good luck.

Just a tip, if it is your first time, read through all the directions a few times and make sure you have everything ready before you start. Do not rush the procedure and stay relaxed through it. If you think something isn't working, don't freak out, just make sure that everything else is properly connected.

biggest mistake people make... make sure your iphone/ipod/ipad is OFF completely.. even if it means you gotta let it set for 3-4 days and let it discharge.. If you disconnect the lcd while you have power on, you have a pretty good chance of doing damage, to where you get:

a. White screen

b. no screen

c. no backlight..

and make sure as you are holding it, to NOT accidentally hit the power button as you are working on it with the battery still connected and hot.. This is why I disconnect the batteries or let the unit discharge.

The above damage is pretty major and very, very few people have the skillset to do the smt repairs needed.,
