Can I use my Seagate hard drive as an external hard drive?

I just replaced the stock hard drive on my mid 2007 MacBook with a 500 gb Seagate hard drive. The Macbook's logic board died, so can I buy a hard drive enclosure and use the Seagate hard drive on another Mac? If so, which Macs would the hard drive work on? Is there some formatting I need to do before or after I unistall the Seagate hard drive? Thanks for your time!

Yes, that should work.

Hard drives come in two main sizes, 2.5" and 3.5". In general, desktops use 3.5" drives (which can have increased capacity, due to their increased physical size) and laptops use 2.5" drives (to reduce the size of the computer). When purchasing an enclosure, you should make sure to get one that fits the right size - if in doubt, choose one that fits both sizes.

It is highly likely your hard drive is formatted with HFS+, which will work just fine on any newer Mac without any additional effort.

Yes for sure you can use it. But first you need to check whether its SATA or IDE.

In any case you need to get a 2.5'' cady case to fit your hard drive in. You can order this case online for few buks. Once you get this box then attach your hard drive inside via connector cable or slot inside and then carefully close it putting the screws back. Once done then you can use the USB cable to attached the enclosed hard drive with your PC.

You can get better data transfer speeds if you have USB 3.0. This has to be present both in the external case and the computer you're connecting it to. USB 3.0 cases are not that much more expensive, and I have found them worth my money.

If the drive came out of a 2007 MacBook, it's a SATA drive. All Intel Macs with hard drives (2006 and later) use SATA connections, although 2006-2008 designs used the older ATAPI bus for optical drives.
