YLOD (After using kit)

Hello there,

So I had my power flicker the other day, and later that day the ps3 played a movie for about 20 minutes then turned off.

I was then getting the issue where it powers on, yellow light, then red. And then the red light would just blink.

I bought the YLOD kit and followed it to the letter. My PS3 doesn't have the memory card reader so it was slightly different but I got around it.

Afterwards, I booted it up and it came on! I was so happy, I ran it for a few minutes and then powered it down. About ten minutes later, it came on to the menu, froze and started doing the light thing again!!

Is there anything else I can try before I give up and buy a new one?

Ropiak86, this is very common for the first couple of attempts. The problem is that we all seem to under treat the heat part. I would suggest you try it again, step by step, but use the heat a bit more aggressive, just not careless.

Thank you for your comment. The guide suggested 25 seconds on each of the 4 sections. Would you recommend more time on low setting for each section? Say a full minute? Thanks!

Don't focus to much on the time. Use a slight sweeping motion to ensure that the balls reflow nicely. remember, that the solder should not melt, just liquify enough to reflow.

I ran the ps3 for about 20 minutes without issue and a restart. I'm going to cross my fingers that it's still working. Thanks for advising I go back in and redo it. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise!

Good job getting it done. It does take a bit of practice and a lot of luck. sometimes it last for a good while and other times it gives out quickly. Consider having a professional reball done for a much more permanent fix. Your console is definitely worth it. Again, great job....:-)
