Uppgrade MacBook Pro Retina

Hi! I want to buy a Macbook Pro Retina 15". And expand it with a larger SSD and memory. It is much more cheaper than buy already installed? In the cheaper model's there is only 8gig ram is installed but I want 16gig.

Is it possible to uppgrade memory and the SSD in a safe way? Will work well? And, what will happen with the waranty?

Is it easy to get the custom special connection for the SSD?

Does the memory use standard connections?

I want 16gig because I will be editing films.

I want a way to save money as I can't afford buying the top model :)

Daniel - First you don't state which model you are looking at (13" or 15") as there are some differences between them on where the SSD is located and possible future options.

Both models use soldered on memory (RAM) as such you can't expand it later.

Both models use a special removable SSD module. In the case of the 13" Apple created a large void which could hold the just announced 500M & 1G 5mm HD disk drives (not available yet). You can't do this yet, but I think Apple was planning for them.

You still can upgrade the SSD later, here's one choice, there are others: OWC SSD upgrades.

Upgrading the SSD is not very difficult and you could put the old unit into an external case to use as a backup. Apple will still honor their warranty as long as the device didn't cause the problem (a good reason to say with one of the major 3rd party vendors).
