Powers down with full battery when ac adapter is plugged in!?

okay, so here is what happened. I got a third party ac adapter and a new third party battery today. I plugged the new adapter in and the machine immediately powered off. It would not power back up. Then I changed to my old power adapter, and then it would boot. The battery has a charge, and when i unplug it, it powers down, when I plug it back in, it powers down. It will boot from the original adapter, it will boot from old or new battery, it will not boot from third party adapter. I cannot add or remove ac power without losing power? I don't understand what is going on.

Thanks!!

I think this is my dc board. I am thinking that since it controls the DC-In

Audio In

Audio Out

USB 2.0

I had better try a usb device and the audio out to confirm, make sense??

I suspect the new adapter is not suitable for your computer and would not try to use again. It may have damaged your dc in board. Will your original adapter charge the batteries? Will the computer power up without the battery installed? If the answer to those questions is no you probably will need to replaced the dc in board. Ralph

Hi Ralph

Yes, the battery will charge, yes, i can power it up with just ac adapter and no battery. But then it took three tries to boot off the battery.

Inconsistent. I am going to reset the pram now!

Thank you!

Hi, Judy. If that doesn't do it try resetting the PMU. Ralph

Hi Ralph,

Thanks again. I reset the pmu, and the time and dat, of course. I believe it must be my dc-in board, my system logs show lots of errors, i daresay that the new charger made my dc-in board stupid. It seems to think i've plugged in a printer!! (never had one on the system)

Thank you very much for all the help! Judy
