After purchasing a new laptop from Best Buy, I heard a high-pitched, whining noise when the fan turned on. Curious why a new laptop would do this, I ordered a basic IFIXIT kit and opened up the back panel of the laptop.

Immediately, upon looking at the right fan, I realized the issue - there was a 1"x 0.5" piece of hard plastic wedged into the fan case. Once removed, the fan was much quieter, and I've had no further issues.
