I know this topic is two months old, but I wish to add my experience, for the benefit of those who will search and find it.
Yes, I agree with the original poster:the dock connector/speaker section is *very* well glued to the case of the iPod. I managed to dislodge it first by nudging it with a jeweller's screwdriver inserted into the screw wells, and then I lifted the board up from the left side (the one without a board going up). I heard the glue unsticking and after that the board was free. Needless to say, you must be extremely careful and gentle, unless you want to own a useless piece of scrap. It's a bad idea to try to push the board by inserting a tool in the dock connector and push inward.
