The console will power up, show the update screen starting from about 75%, it processes for a few seconds then turns off. It does this when turned on with the button on the console as well as a controller. It even goes through this when trying to reset from the troubleshooter and Updating Offline from a thumb drive.
Microsoft support says to take it to a “participating Best Buy Service Center” which the nearest one is an hour away. Best Buy support said I could take it to any location which is a little better. Before that though, are there any more software processes I can try? If not is there a a hardware replacement I can do myself?
