Home button not working after screen replacement

I have replaced the shattered screen on a buddies ipod 6th gen. Home button sits right here it should but it does not click like it used to. I don't recall there ever being a backing plate or any other part behind it. The small clicking mechanism works when I push tweezers on it but not with the home button in place. Anything helps, thanks!
