Why is my SSD not being recognized to boot up?

I recently upgraded my SSD and used an external card reader to install the new OS on it because my MacBook Pro was not detecting it. I tried a new SSD tray and still not reading it. What would be my next step? I connected the SSD to my other MacBook using an external reader and it works with no issues. Any help is greatly appreciated.
