You might want to check your battery, often problems with the keyboard & trackpad are due to the swelling of a battery pressing up onto the connections and/or warp the frame causing the click plate not to work.

I would give this gem of an app a try: [|CoconutBattery] It can help you see how old your battery is and if its degraded.

Here's the IFIXIT guide: [guide|10376|MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Trackpad Replacement] If the battery is good see if you can adjust the click plate adjustment screw with you can see in Step13, it's the Torx screw on the bottom edge in the middle triangle frame tab. Don't do to far as the screw will come out. Try one rotation out.
