how did it get wet? or better said how much water did it take?

I think the best thing to do is open up the device ( here is a link of the 3 ds but is almost the same [guide|5029] )

and clean the mainboard and components with isopropyl alcohol. afterwards let it dry.

it is possible that the battery is dead. due to the water.

but first try to clean the components and let us know
