I have an I-book g4 with exactly the same problem, I found the problem started when I inserted ram from a windows laptop that might or might not have had corrupted data in it at the time. Before you start hating for me inserting bad ram and being an idiot it was two years ago so I was only 10 at the time. Anyways when I press power the speakers give a slight pop; is it the same with you?
