Your machine is not finding a valid system folder. If you have not already done so, start up from your original system DVD and format the new drive using Disk Utilities (found on the second page pull down menu). Then continue installing a system.

Thank you for your answer. I am now having a continuation of this problem. Now the screen is blue and is showing me a question mark inscribed in a file folder. I have tried restarting holding key C, then inserting Mtn Lion 10.6 point something...but nothing resolved this blue screen question mark....
Do you have any advice on this? Especially with respect to the possibility that there is not enough RAM and that's why my laptop is confused?
