iPhone 8: Lightning connector and flat replaced but now a noise on the mic

Hi all. A store replaced my lightning connector+flat from my iPhone cause the original stopped to charge. After this all recorded sounds on whatsapp, voice memos, facebook and phone calls using the regular cell phone and whatsapp audio are generating a noise on the background of the audio. Using the headphone/mic from Apple nothing is recorded. Recording videos using the front and rear camera, the noise is not recording. Only on what I described.

You can hear the noise on a voice memo on a YouTube video that I did. The first audio is the original recorded. The second on the video I just amplified for better hearing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTMM3haK...

Any idea of the problem? Cause I can try to use the iphone near from my face, on the normal position, without touch the sensor with the screen on and the sound is horrible. The answering machine here when I call to test turn off due the sound so low.

The audio message created on the whatsapp before the replacement has a good waveform but after the replacement is horrible. Here is the screenshot.

iPhone 8: Water inside screen, but phone not dead

Hello. Two days ago my phone fell 2m deep into the pool, after 5 min we managed to take it out (its winter). I turned the phone off instantly and put it in rice for 48h but as most know that doesn’t achieve much.

Two days later since the incident, I connected the phone to a power cable and it turns on, appears to be functional as well. However, there’s notable water in the display and a few water drops inside the camera lenses.

So I have a few questions…

1) Should I keep the phone 100% off until there is no noticeable water, or could it be safe to use after a certain period even if there’s moisture in the screen/camera lenses?

2) Is it worth to try a DIY fix, considering the phone still looks alive? Does the fix require components to be replaced or simply drying? In case I take it to (unofficial) repair shop I’d like to know what to expect.

Thanks!

iPhone 8: Y000 screws too tight to remove

Trying to replace the screen on my iPhone 8. I’m at the part where you have to remove the large metal shield/backing plate attached to the back of the screen. This needs to be removed and put on the new screen assembly. It also needs to be removed to get access to the home button.

I’ve managed to remove three of the Y000 screws securing it. But none of the others even look like loosening. They’re too tight. It could potentially be the cheap driver I am using. It’s just one of the ones that comes with replacement screen. But I had no issue with the first three screws. So I’m not sure that’s the reason.

I’m worried that even if I spend the money on a decent driver, it still won’t help if the screws are too tight.

I’ve even considered worse case scenario of buying a new home button and backing shield. But I can’t find the backing shield for sale ANYWHERE.

Anyone have any advice. Thanks in advance.

iPhone 8: iPhone 8 reboots upon enabling loud speaker or listening to loud music

Hi iFixit! This seems to be the first-ever question that I am willing to ask and hopefully, get a solution from. I'm currently experiencing a very frustrating problem with an iPhone 8 that I got from a friend of mine. Usually, I don't really seek any advice or help since I've repaired lots of phones before and know my way around problems, however, this seems to be the first one ever to drive me into seeking it.

Initially, the iPhone 8 had an obliterated screen and a malfunctioning volume down button (irrelevant). So, as usual, I've ordered a screen replacement from my supplier, and as soon as it arrived, unscrewed the shields, disconnected the battery, removed the screen by disconnecting the relevant screen and front camera flex cables, removed the front camera assembly and earpiece, Touch ID, and the Graphite Shield across from the original screen to the new screen. Screwed everything in the correct order and the phone has booted up. So, as usual, I thought that it was pretty much as far as the repair goes and was ready to give the phone up, however, still decided to test the phone further down by watching some Youtube videos and testing the rest of the hardware thoroughly. As soon as I cranked up the volume to the max, the phone turned itself off and then has shown the Apple logo and booted straight back up. Okay, I said, let's try it again and it has happened again. Inserted my SIM card and decided to call the voice mail, and discovered that the phone also restarts upon enabling the Loud Speaker. I clearly knew that something was wrong. After a quick research, I've come to a decision to disconnect the front camera flex and sure enough, the phone quit restarting. "For sure the problem was within the front camera, right?" - NO apparently. the problem was way more profound than I thought it was initially. So, I've ordered a new front camera flex whatever, connected it and the same thing has happened again. Decided to deviate from my supplier and ordered 4 assemblies from Amazon.ca due to its nature of free returns. Once arrived, ALL FOUR OF THEM HAVE SHOWED THE SAME RESTART SYMPTOM. What's interesting is that the phone doesn't restart without the front camera assembly connected. The phone also restarts regardless of whether the earpiece speaker is connected or not.

I'm completely stuck and have absolutely no clue what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

iPhone 8: iPhone disconnects during Restore

Hi,

A few days ago my iPhone 8 was working fine, the suddenly got stuck on the apple logo.

I tried doing the volume up, volume down, and on button trick and it would just go straight back to the apple logo.

I went straight to my computer to restore on iTunes, and my phone immediately prompted me with the screen support.apple.com/iphone/restore once I plugged it in.

I’ve tried restoring and updating the device on 3 different computers and using 2 different USB cords (from Apple). And to no avail, I keep receiving errors 3600, 10, and 14 every time I restored. (Error 3600 being the most recent)

The farthest i’ve gotten within my restore is half way, (if it even gets to the white screen with the apple logo with the loading bar at all) and then my computer makes the noise when you disconnect something from the computer, then after the error is dismissed, the phone connects again.

This has been going on with the phone for about 4 days, and I’m at a loss for solutions. I’ve called Apple support and they want me to go to the apple store, but the nearest apple store is 3 hours away from me.

Any help is appreciated, but I have read tons of articles already and nothing has worked so far.

iPhone 8: Battery draining overnight when powered off

Hi,

I've bought an iPhone 8 with a dead battery and a slightly water-damaged home button. I've replaced the battery with an iFixit battery, and a home button off eBay. Everything on the phone is now working perfectly fine, apart from the fact that it drains its battery from 100% to 0% in a few hours when it's powered off.

I suspected a (partial) short or something similar, so I powered it down, took it back apart and let the logic board cool down. I then took a photo with my thermal camera and one of the display flex cables is staying noticeably warm even when the phone is turned off:

This only goes away when I disconnect the battery. There is no corrosion anywhere on the logic board, I've re-seated the FPC connectors, and checked that all pins on the connector are clean and straight. I also don't see any knocked-off capacitors or something like this.

Could that heat be the current draw that is draining my battery, and what could be the root cause of this?

Thanks in advance

Bit of an odd one that I’ve never come across before and now I’m completely stumped.

I have in my possession an iPhone 8, everything is working properly except the proximity sensor doesn’t work with skin.

If i cover it with paper, plastic, my shirt, litterally anything, it works. The screen goes off during a call and the diagnostics app (Phone Diagnostics by Hitek Nova) verifies the proximity sensor is responding correctly.

However, if i use my hand or put it up to my face, it doesn’t respond.

iPhone 8: iPhone 8 home button compatible with iPhone 7?

Hi, I’ve been looking for a home button for my iPhone 8, and I found some “iPhone 7/8 home button..” on eBay (the same product for iPhone 7 and iPhone 8)

Is the home button from an iPhone 7 compatible with the iPhone 8?

Thanks!
