iPad Mini: Has anyone noted defective replacement home button ribbon cables?

Not so much a question as a warning.

I've been trying to purchase a handful of iPad Mini home button ribbon cables for a couple of iPads I'm repairing. Despite the name "home button ribbon cable", these cables have another function; they contain about eight tiny SMT parts which together detect the smart cover when it is closed or opened to shut off or turn on the iPad

I've shopped on eBay and received a total of ten (10) home button ribbon cables in the past three months from four different vendors. Every single one of them has been missing the smart cover parts. The photos shown in their ads show these parts fully populated, but when they come, they're unpopulated.

One vendor ("telitetech") took the time to understand the problem, checked and told me they did not have any working parts and gave me a refund.

One vendor ("top*parts") sent replacements, which were also bad. They refunded my money.

One vendor ("fine-stock") promised to send a replacement within 3-5 weeks and I should be patient (It's been 8 weeks. It hasn't arrived).

I am still in discussion with the final vendor as their defective parts just arrived.

I fear that some supplier has a defective lot of home button ribbon cables and, perhaps having been rejected by Apple, are now dumping them on eBay. The vendors handling these parts are themselves not aware that they are defective and if you complain, they just reach into the bin and send another set of defective parts.

Only one vendor ("telitetech") withdrew their defective parts from ebay and are now explicitly advertising that their cables have the missing parts (and if I'd noticed that before today I'd have just ordered tfrom them).

The takeaway-- it's buyer-beware in spare-parts world. Don't be afraid to complain if thngs aren't right. Most vendors really aren't trying to steal from you, but some just aren't equipped to help.

BTW, I have tried to transfer the SMT parts from old button ribbon cables to my unintended stock of blank cables, with mixed success so far (two attempts:one failure, one still awaiting test).

iPad Mini: Ipad Mini LCD has massive decrease in resolution after new digitiser

After replacing a smashed digitizer the LCD has suffered a massive decrease in resolution. I thought it might be the new digitiser, but when I tested against the original, the resolution wax still rubbish.

iPad 2 GSM: Touch Screen (digitizer) tempramental after new one fitted?

Firstly I have now successfully removed and fitted over 50 new digitizers on Ipad's including 10 iPad mini's.

The one in question was bought to me after a failed DIY fix. I have attempted to fit 3 different digitizers that work perfectly in other machines but without success.

The problem is very temperamental, sometimes the touch screen will work perfectly and at others not. I have attempted to apply pressure at different parts of the PCB without change, the ribbon clips and connectors look ok under magnification and I have restored the devise back to factory setting and updated. Nothing makes any difference.

Be grateful for any help and advice - many thanks Dan

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi: My ipad is cracked badly and it’s glitching!

background info:

so a few months back (like 2-3 months) my dad got very mad (unexpected) and my ipad was on the table. he threw my ipad very hard into the floor (and the floor cracked along with my ipad). the corners of one half of the ipad was cracked (the other half wasn’t cracked as badly). and surprisingly and fortunately it still works (everything was normal except my microphone doesn’t work and the camera was blurry bc my mom had to tape near it and it sorta covered it).

so a day or two before, it started acting up. like i tried to unlock my ipad and i pressed one number (passcode) and the ipad itself just started spamming the passcode and i was forced to close it. i tried again and once again the ipad started spamming the passcode numbers and the try again after 1 minute lock came on. so i left it alone cuz i thought it would fix itself after a night. so yesterday morning i opened it, thinking it fixed itself because the passcode part had no problems. then after a few minutes, it started acting up. i went into safari— the search bar just went up and down and up and down (it wasn’t spamming letters it was just the screen). i tried roblox, went into adopt me, the starting screen kept on spamming me, every time i would press no the same question/sign would pop right back up (it’s not supposed to). for ex: it would say do u want to teleport to the hat shop yes or no and i would press no but the same sign kept on popping up so i couldn’t even play. the screen was moving itself. (spamming letters on my keyboard only happened once, just the passcode.)

help me is it just broken? yes i’ve tried shutting it down.

iPad Pro 11" 3rd Gen: iPad got stepped on and now it's bent, faceID not working properly

So my iPad (iPad Pro M1 11-inch) got stepped on and now the frame is bent. Everything is working except for the faceID which says camera covered in the lock screen even when nothing is covering it. When hard resetting the iPad I’m able to set up a faceID once but after that it says faceID is not available. I’ve tried talking to an Apple Advisor and they ran a diagnostic test on my end but didn’t see anything wrong with it. There are also two bright spots when the background is a dark color like black where the bend was. Is there any way I can fix this with everything intact?

iPad Air 2 LTE: Can I put an iPad 5 battery into an iPad Air 2?

Hi folks..

I got three iPads lying around with various defects and I'm trying to make a single properly functioning one out of them.

The iPad Air 2 LTE (A1567) has a near-dead battery

The iPad 5th's (A1822) screen is cracked and loose every which way

The iPad 7th (A2197), according to the Apple Store has a dead logic board (won't boot / goes into reboot cycle)

Far as I can tell my options are to either repair/replace 7's board or replace the Air 2's battery.

So I was wondering if the apparently different model battery from the iPad 5 would be okay to fit into the Air 2?

(Sorry if it's an obvious 'no way'. Not an expert by any stretch.)

iPad 9 Wi-Fi: Screen replacement causes lcd to go crazy?

Hey all first time poster, I replaced the screen in my daughter’s iPad 9th gen 10.2” . The replacement went well and nothing visibly went array. It’s my first replacement but I wanted to attempt to do it myself worst case the iPads are on sale for $250 right now. Long story short I replaced the touch screen, I powered the iPad on before finalizing the install so I could test the touch screen before securing above the lcd. Everything worked flawlessly. I got everything put together and powered the iPad on, and the lcd goes nuts. Can’t type in the passcode or anything. It spams the passcode and locks me out. I ordered another touch screen thinking that may be a problem. It gets here tomorrow. But I’m thinking there may be another issue? Possibly lcd? I did remove the touch screen again, I powered the iPad on with no touch screen and the lcd seems to go crazy even without the touch screen attached. Any idea??

iPad mini 4 Wi-Fi: After charging to 100% iPad turns off due to low battery

Hey guys,

Recently I have problems with my iPad mini 4 Wi-FI.

After charging to 100% battery, iPad turns itself off with low battery indicator. If i try to turn it on just after - it still shows low battery and won’t start. After few tries it allows me to turn on again, it boots to the main screen, I can see that battery is at 100%, but if I try to do anything it shuts off again with the same low battery indicator.

It usually takes several tries (even more than 10) to get it running again.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong? I never let it drain to 0% and turn it off by itself.

Appreciate any help!

Thanks,
