Window Air Conditioners: Cleaning the coils in a refrigerated air window unit before summer use

It's starting to hot in Texas. I have a refrigerated air window unit in my office so I don't have to cool the whole house down to remain comfortable while answering iFixit questions. It has a removable plastic filter on the inside of the house that can be removed and washed. Behind that are the radiator coils. Those are dirty and I would like to clean them without making a big mess. Does anyone know how to do this and any other yearly maintenance things I need to do before starting it up for the year?

Air Conditioning: How to connect new thermostat to ducted heating and swamp cooler

Hello.

I have a swamp (evaporative) cooler and ducted heater which have both been connected to the same thermostat remote control, a Bonaire Comfort Control remote.

The remote control has now broken, and I would like to connect both units to a new thermostat.

The wires available to connect to a new thermostat are brown, red, orange and yellow.

I was interested in purchasing a basic Honeywell system, however the wiring diagrams make no allowance for a brown wire (see picture). The retailer does not believe joint wiring on the Honeywell is a possibility.

In fact, I havent found any thermostats that make allowances for brown wires, other than the original Comfort Control remote, which is no longer produced.

I dont know what the brown wire is for specifically.

Has anyone had this same issue before? How to resolve it?

Thank you.

Amana Window Air Conditioner: Water building up inside the machine

Hey all,

I have an older wall mounted Amana air conditioner (MODEL NUMBER: AAC121SRA) as my primary air conditioner up at my summer home and i’ve been running it quite a bit recently due to the hot & humid weather (more than I typically have to run it). I went out to the back of my house where the air conditioner is tonight and I noticed an awful stench coming from the air conditioner that I had not noticed before. Upon further investigation I noticed that there was about half of an inch of standing water inside the air conditioner. I looked for (and found) the drainage hole that was supposed to drain all this standing water, and nothing was blocking the hole.

The drainage hole I found was on the bottom right corner on the front of the machine (facing it when you are outside). Is there another drainage hole that I missed that could be clogged? Or is this normal for there to be some water inside the machine?

Thanks in advance. I can provide pictures of the air conditioner at hand if needed. One thing I cannot do is take the air conditioner off of its mount.

Air Conditioning: Stationary AirCon unit overheated compressor

Hi all. I'm new to the page and after some research I couldn't find similar topic/issue.

We have a floor standing unit Amcor 12000 BTU and after about a year of usage as aircon in summer occasionally and more often ad dehumidifier in winter it suddenly stopped blowong cold air.

They didn't accept it under warranty as apparently the “exhaust “ pipe wasnt lined up in less than 30 degrees to the unit which they said caused a compressor overheating. Unfortunately I wasnt aware of that and when they asked for a video and picture how the unit is positioned I didn't adjust it to meet the criteria so they have an evidence that it wasnt - my bad.

My question is, can this be fixed or I'm looking at purchasing new unit?

The unit cost was around 380GBP and they offered me a new unit deal for £250 plus this faulty one.

Many thanks for any help.
